H. Iris Chyi is an associate professor and new media researcher in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.
Her research interests include the economics of new media, online journalism, and news framing. Her recent work on users' format preference for traditional media challenges the theory of disruptive technology. Prior to joining the faculty at UT Austin, she taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong from 2000 to 2004 and at the University of Arizona from 2004 to 2007. She also has worked for several online organizations, including wwwins.com, an internet consulting firm that develops strategies for multinational companies in Greater China; Cox Interactive Media, which operates the online edition of The Austin American-Statesman; and ChinaTimes.com, the first Chinese-language online newspaper.
