Posted

The Markham family has sold the Antelope Valley Press in Palmdale, California, and its companion publications to Antelope Valley Press Inc., a corporation headed by veteran newspaper publisher Steven Malkowich.

Malkowich’s Canadian-based business ANG owns paper in Canada and the United States, including several in California.

Terms of the transaction were not announced. CAL DVM, a California subsidiary of Dirks, Van Essen & Murray, the Santa Fe, N.M.-based merger and acquisition firm, represented the Markham family in the sale.

The Antelope Valley Press, which marked its 100th year of publication in 2015, has a daily circulation of 11,000 and a Sunday circulation of 18,000.

William Markham, who had been the newspaper’s publisher and shared ownership with his brother and sister, said of the sale: “Now is the time for our family to make way for others with greater resources than ours.”
