Todd Culbertson was named senior editor, editorials and Bart Hinkle was named editor, editorial pages & online opinion section at The Richmond Times-Dispatch.
The appointments were announced by Publisher Thomas A. Silvestri who said, “The Richmond Times-Dispatch is fortunate to have an outstanding award-winning editorial team that since 2007 has been led by Todd, who recently celebrated 40 years on the editorial staff. We appreciate the elegance of Todd’s writing style and his encyclopedic knowledge of a library of subjects, which RTD readers learn from each day and visitors to the editorial board engage regularly during interviews. I also appreciate his willingness to continue his editorial writing.”
Hinkle is a nationally recognized columnist who has served as deputy editor and a major contributor to the editorial voice of the RTD. He joined the organization in 1990.
In his new role, Hinkle will direct editorial operations with an added role in reshaping our digital commentary content and products. “We expect Bart’s creativity, often used to product witty and insightful commentary, to help us plan new concepts for Richmond.com and the opinion section online,” Silvestri said.
In addition to Culbertson, Hinkle will collaborate with the other members of the staff, RTD Commentary Editor Bob Rayner, Op/Ed Editor Cindy Paris and Associate Editor and columnist Robin Beres.
“The RTD is a trusted media in print and online and these changes enable editorial to participate with other RTD departments in an important transformation where we have the potential to reach more readers throughout Virginia and our capital region,” Silvestri said.
